Parents needs met with opening of Aurora Child Care Center

(11/22/09) By Anthony Pura – It is something parents said Aurora has needed for some time.

Sunday community members gathered for the Aurora Child Care Center ribbon cutting.

News Five's Anthony Pura was at the event. He's now live in the studio.

Rachel, before this center opened up, the nearest day care facility was about 20 miles away in Central City.

Well, that will not be the case anymore.

It is everything Nicole Fisher wanted in a day care.

"It’s just so clean and everybody's been just so friendly and the hours are wonderful and I just think it’s going to be the best thing for my kids,” said Nicole Fisher of Aurora.

Her kids McKenzie and Mycah will start coming here Monday.

Nicole used to rely on home day care...but she said this will be better.

“Just being in a facility where they can get a whole variety of different ideas from different people is going to be really good,” said Nicole.

A good daily structure is routine at Aurora Child Care.

"When the kids get her from school we sit down and do their homework with them, have snack time and free time play outside and hopefully burn off some of that energy off,” said Lisa Kluck, Center Director.

The center has been up for about a month. More than fifty kids come here already.

And in a community, where parents rely on home day cares, this gives them another option when sitters are unavailable.

"Sometimes they take trips, they're sick, now employers don't have to worry about an employee missing work,” said Dennis Ferguson, Aurora Child Care Inc.

With limited sitters in town, many parents used to find themselves in a bind.

"You can't find anyone to take you because they're full with their own kids that they've been watching,” said Glinda Rasmussen of Giltner.

But that will not be a problem anymore, this new center will keep kids safe, parents at work, and give everyone piece of mind.

The center cost about $850,000 to build... A committee raised monies through private sectors and fundraisers.

There is still about $250,000 left to pay off. But parents and community leaders said it is well worth it.
