Marshall announces retirement from emergency management

(11/09/2009) By Brittany Rainey - After 30 years in emergency management and a battle with cancer, the Fillmore County Emergency Manager is retiring. Terry Marshall is well–known in the area.

He started his career in the 1970's working in Adams County. He has been through a lot both professionally and personally. He was there when the 1980 tornado hit Grand Island. And Marshall has battled a rare form of cancer. It is now in remission.

Marshall said his career has been a long journey.

"But I am going to miss the battle, I am going to miss the challenges, I am gong to miss the good times, you know I will find something else to do absolutely, what it is I have not the foggiest idea, I really do not," said Marshall.

Marshall said emergency management is a way of life not a job, and that every day was an enjoyable adventure. His last day is Tuesday.
