Dennis Kellogg

Dennis Kellogg is KHAS-TV NEWS 5’s news director. You can also see his “Day in the Heartland” reports on unique people in Nebraska and Kansas every Tuesday night on NEWS 5. Dennis came to KHAS-TV in December of 1997 as news director.

Dennis graduated from the University of Dayton (Ohio) and later earned his master’s degree from Syracuse University. He worked as a radio news and sports director at KODY-AM and KX104-FM in North Platte, Nebraska for two years. He moved to television in 1989 as a news anchor and later a sports anchor at KNOP-TV in North Platte, Nebraska, where he worked for six years. He also worked as a weekend news anchor and reporter for WSTM-TV in Syracuse, New York for two years. His reporting has taken him to the continents of Europe and Africa. He has also earned awards from the Syracuse Press Club, the Nebraska Associated Press Broadcasters Association and the Nebraska Broadcasters Association. Dennis has served two terms as president of the Nebraska Associated Press Broadcaster’s Association.

Dennis teams with NEWS 5's talented videographers to bring viewers "A Day in the Heartland” on Tuesday nights on NEWS 5 at 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday mornings on NEWS 5 Today at 6:00 a.m. and News 5 at 11:30 a.m. “A Day in the Heartland” celebrates outstanding and unique individuals in Nebraska and Kansas. The stories have ranged from a man who started his own radio station in the basement of his home to a woman who created her town’s only library in her garage. The subjects of the stories have ranged from children as young as seven to senior citizens more than 100 years old. “There are as many great stories out there waiting to be told as there are great people waiting to tell them,” Dennis said. “I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to bring those stories to our viewers every week.”

When he’s not concentrating on work, Dennis enjoys spending time with his wife Jennifer and their family, Chelsey, Sean and Taylor. He also enjoys basketball, tennis and golf, reading and traveling. Dennis likes to relax listening to Christian music and talk radio and is an active member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Hastings.
