Moeller gets probation for tax evasion charge

(11/06/2009) By Rachel Lake - Former Adams County Treasurer Julia Moeller will not be going to prison for tax evasion. Instead she will serve 3 years probation. That was the sentence handed down Friday in Clay County Court.

Julia Moeller said Friday what happened was unintentional. She never meant to break the law.

Friday's probation sentence comes after Moeller reached a deal with prosecutors.

She pled no contest to a charge of felony tax evasion and misdemeanor official misconduct. A third charge against her was dropped.

Authorities said Moeller worked with her daughter Michaelan Parr, another county employee, to avoid paying sales tax on a motor home.

Parr also pled no contest in the case as part of a plea deal and was sentenced to probation.
Moeller still faces sentencing in another tax evasion case involving a vehicle.

Both her and her husband were originally charged.

Moeller also made a plea agreement in that case pleading no contest. Some charges against her were dropped. So were all the charges against her husband.

Moeller worked as the Adams County Treasurer for 28 years. Her sentence also includes 200 hours of community service.

She will have to pay and about $3,000 in restitution to Adams County, as well.
