Birkhead suffers injury during Husker practice

(10/13/2009) By Colin Murphy - Husker freshman running back Rex Birkhead suffered a foot injury in practice and will miss this week's game against Texas Tech.

The youngster from Plano, Texas has 23 carries for 118 yards and a score with 8 catches for 66 yards and another touchdown.

He has done well, he will obviously be missed and the rest of the offensive players know how valuable Rex has been.

Husker Coach Bo Pelini will likely use Marcus Mendoza as backup to the team's leading rusher Roy Helu, Jr. Roy himself has been hampered by an injured foot.
