Thermo King announces layoffs
(1/07/2009) KHAS-TV - KHAS-TV News 5 has learned 21 full-time employees are being laid off at Hastings Thermo King manufacturing facility. The layoffs take effect January 16th.
Paul Dickard, Director of External Communications for Thermo King’s parent company Ingersoll Rand, confirmed the layoffs to News 5 Wednesday night. Dickard said the layoffs affect hourly workers across multiple departments. He cited the current economic conditions and a downturn in demand as the reason for the layoffs.
Dickard says the remaining hourly employees at thermo king will be put on a reduced work schedule. The company will shut down production five days during the first quarter of 2009. The shut downs will begin January 16th and continue every other Friday for the first three months of the year.
Dickard said the Hastings plant will employ approximately 300 workers after the layoffs. About 280 of those are hourly employees.
Dickard calls the layoffs a “proper adjustment” to the company’s current demand. He said the current situation is “unprecedented” and the economy has affected every part of the Ingersoll Rand’s operations worldwide.
