Husker Harvest Days wraps up with huge success
(9/11/2008) By Jeniffer Berry - The 2008 Husker Harvest Days are officially over and crews are busy taking down the tents. Organizers said this could be one of their most successful years. The 3 day attendance figures will not be tallied until next week, but organizers said they would not be surprised if they had more than 100,000 people through the gates.
Officials said nice weather the first two days helped bring out record crowds.
They also said it helped to have a record number of vendors.
There were more than 600 at the event.
Organizers said it was a successful year, but they are already looking ahead to how they can make the next one better.
"We all compile our notes and meet with the people who help put on the show and get any suggestion we can and start working for 2009," said Marketing Specialist Dena Jensen.
The dates for next years Husker Harvest Days have already been set.
It will run September 15th through the 17th.
Also out at Husker Harvest Days was former U.S. AG secretary, Mike Johanns.
Johanns took a special tour of the Monsanto research site at the event.
The company is looking at new hybrid seed alternatives for corn and soybeans.
Johanns said new technologies for farmers are a necessity to future success, not only for farmers, but the state.
Agriculture is the number one industry in Nebraska.
Johanns said the research shows exciting growth.
"This is what Nebraska agriculture is all about. It is cutting edge, it is new technologies that will increase yields in soybeans and corn," said Johanns.
Mike Johanns is running for U.S. Senate. He faces democrat Scott Kleeb in the November election.
