Chris Schukei
Chris Schukei joined the News 5 team as co-anchor of News 5 Today and assistant news director in August of 2008. A Hastings native, Chris graduated from Hastings College with a dual major in business and communications.
After graduation, Chris spent 10 years working as music coordinator at Late Show with David Letterman. After returning to Central Nebraska, Chris spent several years as Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications at Hastings College.
The lure of being part of a live daily newscast is what brought Chris back to television. “The excitement that is part of creating a daily broadcast is something that can’t be recreated. Once that gets in your blood, it’s hard to do anything else.”
Working at KHAS-TV is a homecoming of sorts for Chris, as he spent his high school and college years employed on the other side of the camera working in production.
Although he would have never gotten the label ‘morning person’ when he was growing up, Chris enjoys being a part of helping people start their day. “In addition to looking for the news and weather information they need to start their day, people are also looking for a pleasant reason to get up at all! Hopefully we provide that for them.”
When he’s not working, Chris makes as much time as possible for family and stays busy with his wife and three year old son. He is also active in the community as a board member for the United Way and is a member of First Presbyterian Church.
