Travis Klanecky

Travis Klanecky joined the NEWS 5 Skywatch 5 weather team in June of 2008. He is a St. Paul native and a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Meteorology/Climatology.

While in college, he was an intern at KOLN/KGIN in Lincoln. After graduating, he moved on to become the morning meteorologist at KDLT in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After a year in Sioux Falls, Travis and his wife decided to move back to Central Nebraska to be closer to family and friends.

Travis' interest in weather began at a very young age. When he was two, St. Paul was struck by a tornado. His favorite aspect of meteorology is severe weather, and it was only fitting that it would welcome him back to Nebraska. He helped cover a severe weather outbreak until 2:30 in the morning during his first week at KHAS.

Travis looks forward to serving the people of Nebraska and Northern Kansas through his forecast and hopes they will turn to NEWS 5 whenever severe weather may be threatening their area. He says, "I look forward to covering the weather of such a familiar area. I feel it makes the viewer comfortable when they are watching someone that understands the area they live in."

Besides the weather, Travis enjoys spending his free time with his wife. His other interests include Husker athletics throughout the year, keeping active in sports and outdoor activities, sitting down to a movie, and playing video games from time to time.

Travis' faith is also very important to him. He is a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. "I love being able to serve the Lord in such a unique way on television. I try to live as a Christian example both on screen and in my everyday life."
