Ribbon-cutting ceremony held for largest US ethanol plant
(6/01/2008) By Denise Booker VeraSun Energy in Albion is celebrating the success of its $200 million project: a new ethanol plant. This week they held a ribbon–cutting ceremony for the plant. It is expected to have a major impact on Albion.
It was a day of celebration. Just 7 months ago one of the largest ethanol facilities in the nation was built in Albion.
“This really benefits rural Nebraska it helps bring 50 jobs, it helps our farmers and ranchers related to corn and of course cattle industry benefits from by production,” said Governor Dave Heineman.
The plant has the capacity to produce more than 100 million gallons of ethanol per year and the plant also employs dozens of skilled workers.
“These are high quality positions, full time positions that are well paid,” said Don Endres, VeraSun CEO.
It is money that is being spent all around town creating a huge economic boost.
“We have seen a little boom in the housing market because of it we have seen tremendous amount of money spent at the local businesses,” said Tim Kayton, from the Boone County Development Agency.
Kayton says it is a huge impact that will not only create more jobs and revenue but attract more people to the town.
“People see that the towns growing and our goal is to bring to town which also brings people to town,” said Kayton.
