Chris Wagner
Chris Wagner is a Butler, Pennsylvania native and a graduate of Point Park University in Pittsburgh. He joined the NEWS 5 team as a producer in October 2007. Chris produces the news from across central Nebraska and northern Kansas for NEWS 5 @ 6:00 pm and NEWS 5 @ 10:00 pm throughout the week.
Chris’s love of broadcasting goes all the way back to before kindergarten, when he was doing his own “talk shows” to an audience of stuffed animals. When he reached 12th grade, he became the Sports Director for his high school’s televised morning show, and most recently had been the public address announcer for the past five years for Butler High School’s girls and boys basketball games.
Following high school, he attended Point Park University, majoring in broadcasting. While there, Chris hosted one of the school’s longest running radio shows, “World Wrestling Radio” while also being apart of the daily morning show and the weekly sports show, as well as a play-by-play voice for Point Park’s basketball teams. On the TV side of the coin, the two-term student government President co-hosted eight episodes of PPU’s news magazine show “On The Point.”
When Chris heard about the opportunity to produce the news at KHAS-TV in Hastings, he made the 1,100 mile trip west for two reasons: possibility and adventure. “The farthest west I had ever been was South Bend, Indiana,” says the life-long Notre Dame fan. “But ultimately I chose Nebraska to try something new…something that will make me a better all-around journalist.”
Chris’s end-all be-all job? Doing play-by-play for Monday Night Raw. “I might not end up being the next Jim Ross or the next Gordon Solie. But all I want is the chance to show my passion and ability.”
When not behind-the-scenes at KHAS, Chris is keeping in touch with family and friends in Western Pennsylvania while also getting better acquainted with the Tri-Cities region of “The Land of the Good Life.” (And he’s probably either watching his Pittsburgh Steelers, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, or staying up-to-date with the world of professional wrestling.)
CHRIS’S FAVORITE MOVIE: “Air Force One” and any movie starring The Rock
CHRIS'S FAVORITE BOOK: The Great Gatsby
CHRIS'S MOST ADMIRED JOURNALIST: Chris Fowler or Brent Musberger
CHRIS'S ALL-TIME FAVORITE TV SHOWS:
1. Monday Night Raw
2. Friday Night Smackdown
3. Saturday Night’s Main Event (on NBC)
4a. Cheers
4b. Sanford and Son
5. Back to You
