Katie Ferrell

Katie Ferrell anchors News 5’s evening newscasts with James Wilcox every weekday evening at 6 and 10. She joined the News 5 team in June of 2007 as a reporter and anchor for the morning newscast weekdays at 11:30. She also helped kick off the newest and earliest newscast of the day, "News 5 Today” in October of 2007.

Originally from Strongsville, Ohio (just miles from Cleveland) Katie knew since high school she wanted to be part of the fast paced world of broadcast journalism. In high school she anchored the school’s newscasts and knew she had discovered her passion.

Katie is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She received her degree in broadcast journalism in 2007. Prior to News 5, Katie spent four years at NBC affiliate, KOMU in Columbia, Missouri where she was an anchor and reporter. She also worked for the NPR radio station, KBIA.

Her love of Journalism took her overseas in 2006 where she worked for CBS News in London. While in England, Katie reported from Windsor Castle about the Queen’s 80th Birthday and about pro-Islam protests against controversial cartoons satirising the Prophet Muhammad. Her curiosity of other cultures took her to several countries including Egypt, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Italy and France. It’s an experience she says she’ll never forget.

Katie is married to her college sweetheart, Daniel. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, scrapbooking, spending time with family and friends and learning how to cook!
