It was the first time I could see my breath as I stepped out the door to head for work this morning. Temperatures across the southern Nebraska are in the lower 20s making it the coldest start so far in the fall season. Some areas have fallen into the upper 10s in northern Nebraska but we should reach the upper 40s this afternooon. We won’t have as much wind and another sunny day. Tomorrow we will start cold again…mid 20s but we should get near 60s in the afternoon with sunshine. The best weather looks to be this weekend again as we will reach the 60s easily and have plenty of sunshine. There is a slim glimmer of hope for those that want some rain. We could see a small chance early next week.

It appears we will continue to see stellar weather for the rest of the week though temperatures will remain a little cool (about 5 degrees below average) through Tuesday before a Wednesday warm-up when winds will return to a southerly direction and pick up.
In the meantime dress the kids warmly for school in the morning as lows will drop into the low 20s. The winds won’t switch from a consistent northwesterly direction to the south until late in the day toward evening so afternoon highs will level in upper forties with sunshine.
Temperatures will stay in the upper 50 to low 60s range through the weekend. An upper level disturbance is still forecasted by the models to push into the plains region for the weekend though the timing and track remains fairly uncertain at this time. I have slight rain chances Sunday night into early Monday but we have a few days to get a better feel for things.

The good news in all of this sunshine and dry conditions is that it’s been lasting into the weekend. We’ve got a great forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Today we have a cold front coming thru and expect breezy north winds and highs in the mid to upper 50s. Tomorrow the return of southerly winds and warmer temps as we’ll make it into the low 60s. For those making the short trip to Lawrence, Kansas (including Ed Littler and I) to watch the KU-Husker game it should be a nice day to tailgate and watch a football game as weather conditions will be sunny and around 60 at gametime. I won’t reveal to Husker fans which team I’m rooting for. Sunday will be even better as we’ll have sunny skies and highs near 70. I’m expecting to go golfing that day and to even think about that in early Novemeber is nice.
