For all the ghouls and goblins out and about tonight if you can deal with a little wind…trick or treating should have no problems from the weather.
Today we’ll have highs in the mid 50s and we will have north winds anywhere from 10-20 miles per hour. This evening expect the winds to die down a bit and temperatures will fall into the 40s.
Tomorrow morning it will be cold…we could even have our first hard freeze (28 degrees or below) for some areas in southern Nebraska. Tomorrow afternoon will be a little warmer as we’ll reach the 60s.

I recently was asked by one of the employees here at the station…during the morning show don’t you get burnt out by saying the same thing over and over. I had to think about it a little bit but I guess you could say this week has tested me as far as making sunny, a little wind, and temperatures in the 60s sound exciting. I try not to burn out but most weather geeks prefer a little change in the weather pattern. Often when the weather is the most calm I feel most people enjoy it but for me it’s a good test to stay as much in tune with the forecast as possible. In fact when I was starting out in college, I was told I would have a harder time getting through the easiest forecasts on tv as opposed to severe weather, snowstorms, etc. While the storms do provide excitement, they can also provide tons of stress…so there is an upside to the not so exciting weather.
Anyway we continue the sunshine pattern today and highs will be in the lower 60s. We’ll see a cold front come through tomorrow and drop our highs into the upper 50s and lower 50s on Saturday. Don’t expect any rain at least in southern Nebraska with this frontal passage. Afterwards we’ll warm back up next week with plenty of sunshine…so needless to say, I’ll have to continue getting through this pattern.

It was chilly to start off the day as many areas fell into the mid 30s. But with clear skies and light winds you can pretty much expect a cold overnight. The clear skies led to a nice sunrise this morning and we’ll see plenty of sun all day today. The winds will be breezy and we should make it into the mid 60s. Not as cold tonight as we’ll fall into the lower 40s then back into the mid 60s tomorrow with plenty of sun. Looking further into the future the weekend is also going to be dry, sunny, and a little cooler.

A happy Monday to everyone.
This week is starting off great, albeit a bit cold. This afternoon we are expecting plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the upper 50s.
There will be some rain to deal with mainly from Northeast Kansas to Texas. This is in association with the storm system that brought the cooler temperatures and light rain to some parts on Nebraska yesterday. The storm system is expected to be cut off from the main flow or the jetstream. When this happens you have the makings of a rainy week since nothing is moving the storm system. It is expected to sit in the southern plains to start off the week. What that means for us is we’ll have cool air coming in for the first half of the week but we should be far enough that we won’t see rain. Then there is indication of the system gradually moving back to the north or even northwest and we could see some effects on Thursday with cloud cover and maybe even some light rain. Other than that, nothing too bad looming on the horizion in the weather department.

We just can’t seem to put together a full weekend without a little wind and rain in the mix and this weekend is no exception. Saturday will be the day to enjoy the great outdoors with upper 70s and sunshine.
Late Saturday a cold front will blast through the area with strong north winds that may result in some wind advisories being posted for Sunday. There will be some precipitation behind the front but it may take some time for the lower levels of the atmosphere to saturate. We’re looking at a time frame of early Sunday morning, but the best chances will likely be on Sunday night.
Temps on Sunday will be about 23 degrees cooler than Saturday.

Today won’t be fun to be outdoors…we are going to have cloudy skies, periods of rain showers, and lots of wind. In fact the wind will probably be the main story as the speeds are anticipated to be well over 30 miles per hour. The national weather service has much of the area in a wind advisory.

A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM THIS MORNING TO 7 PM
CDT THIS EVENING.
NORTHWEST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH THIS MORNING…AND
GUST TO 45 MPH. THE WINDS WILL REMAIN STRONG THROUGH THE
AFTERNOON BEFORE SUBSIDING DURING THE EVENING.
WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT…ESPECIALLY FOR
HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES. USE EXTRA CAUTION. OUTDOOR OBJECTS SHOULD
BE SECURED SO THAT THEY ARE NOT BLOWN ABOUT BY THE STRONG WINDS.
As far as the rain the region received anywhere from a 1/3 to 3/4 of an inch. We will certainly add to those totals today and have our afternoon temps only reach the lower to mid 50s.
Tomorrow much better…the sun will return, the winds will still be a bit on the strong side but we should rebound into the mid 60s. If you are thinking about the Husker game…weather should be great, plenty of sunshine afternoon highs in the lower 70s. That’s why I like the midwest…you can go through crummy weather for a while but it soon turns better.

Clouds will rapidly increase tonight, as moisture and a push of warmer air drifts into southern Nebraska setting the stage for what appears to be a wild Wednesday weatherwise. (Don’t you love alliteration) (more…)

A little bit on today…as we transition from the effects of this weekend’s storm system…we’ll see some sunshine this afternoon and temps in the low 60s.
It’s towards tomorrow however, parts of the country may be seeing a late season severe weather event. The storm prediction center out of Norman, Oklahmom outlines the risk for tomorrow.

Most of the Nebraska is out of the risk, North Central Kansas is in the slight risk…but if you have plans to head southward into Kansas and Oklahoma, keep close watch of the weather as these areas have a good shot at some strong storms. The storm prediction center is talking about the possibility of strong storms and a good chance of tornadoes. For October to have a moderate risk 2 days out is very rare. Should be an interesting setup.
So far models have been showing a strong trough moving in with plenty of ample moisture coming in from the gulf and decent cold, air coming in from the pacific. Basically it’s got the same setup as common spring storms. As far as we are concerned we will have a good chance of rain starting tomorrow afternoon…with a slight risk some storms could be severe. Temperatures will be in the mid 60s and the winds will be breezy out of the southeast. Rain should be ending during the day on Thursday.

After a soggy weekend in which many areas received around an inch of rain we are still seeing scattered showers primarily north of I-80 this morning. The main storm system is still situated in Southeast Colorado is going to slowly move out into the plains this afternoon. The surface low pressure is located around the Aurora-York areas and will move slowly northeast. Showers are expected to redevelop and pinwheel on the backside of the low…(meaning they’ll move initally west and northwest, then dive to the southeast). Highs will only make it into the upper 40s and low 50s.
Tomorrow we could see some showers early but we should be dry most of the day. Highs near 60. Wednesday another pacific system comes through and there is a good chance of showers and storms starting in the afternoon…some could even be severe. I’ll tackle what to expect on Wednesday in a little more detail, tomorrow.

And so it all begins. Look for another cloudy, rainy weekend across the area. We have got to do something about the timing of these storms, this weekend stuff is unacceptable.
Thunderstorms are pushing into eastern Nebraska this evening and while no additional development has taken place in their wake that may change later tonight. A warm front is residing across central Kansas with a moisture axis from western and central Kansas northward so anyplace is really fair game for activity this evening. (more…)
